The “Battle Of The Trees” ™ Celtic Board Game : "The Defending Pieces (Arawn Forces)"

Defending pieces are represented by magickal animals. There are many supernatural beasts throughout Celtic mythology whose common quality is their unnatural, white colour. These animals from the Underworld sometimes have bright, glowing, red ears, like king Arawn's dogs who appear depicted in tales with "glittering bright white" and red ears that glitter as brightly as their white bodies, or the "gleaming white boar" which leads the hunters and their dogs to a magical trap. Let us also notice that the Celtic Goddess Rhiannon arrives from the Underworld on a white horse at an earthen mound.

I have chosen some of the relevant creatures featured in Celtic tales and heraldry, such as the Welsh Dragon, the Cockatrice, the Enfield, Arawn's Hound, and the "Arawen". Being the latter, an invention of my own, a mythical creature which resembles the pureness of the Unicorn and the fearsome of the Wild Boar, common inhabitants of the Underworld.

Defending pieces are positioned on the holly wood (light brown) squares of the 3rd, and 4th rings, within the frontiers of Annwn and around the unassailable Central Maze.

The placement is easy, just position each pawn on the holly wood squares of the 3rd and 4th rings, leaving the two ebony squares next to the "Banishing Zone" on the third ring unfilled.

The featured information and artworks belong to the “Battle Of The Trees” ™ Celtic Board Game  , a creative and inventive chase and battle game that retains part of the spirit of the ancient Irish "Brandub" and "Fidchell" board games.

One of its main features is that you may not only play it as a battle game, but also as a way for divination... You play as Gwydion, the bard and magician. “Lord of Knowledge” and “Lord of Trees”, and you will be responsible for animating the trees of the forest on their final quest.

For further information about this game, I wrote a whole eBook as an extended version of the companion handbook, comprising the complete information upon the context and basis of “Battle Of The Trees” ™ Celtic Board Game, and now available on Kindle format at Amazon
