Steeped in tradition, this timeless Gaelic song tells the poignant tale of unrequited love for a young fisherman. The song's origins are shrouded in mystery, with multiple variations of the story. One account dates the song back to the late 18th century, attributing its authorship to Sìne NicFhionnlaigh from Tong, Isle of Lewis. The song is said to have been penned for Donald MacRae of Uig, Isle of Lewis. Interestingly, despite the song's despairing tone, legend has it that the couple eventually married a year after the song was written. Let's immerse ourselves in the haunting beauty of this song, performed by myself and the help of my Soul Sister and composer Áine Aislinn
