Divinations for the Seed Moon (3-22-12 to 4-20-12)

This is a time for openings

The earth opens to receive new seed, the leaves of the seedlings open to receive the nurturing of the sunlight, and you, too, can open to recieve the best of whatever new insights and blessings the spring of a new year has to offer.

This moon traditionally holds celebrations that echo the theme of openings and new growth and discovery also. When this moon falls in the Julian Calendar Month of May it will coincide with the runic half-month of Lagu. This Runic Half-Month represents the gentle gestational power of water.

Think on how mighty canyons have been carved out by the endless, yet gentle, flow of water. This period, then, offers a chance to "float" along with the gentle stream shaping our lifes experience without really needing to try to control this flow. Without struggle, we are free to simply "be"... This flow offers the gift of inner peace.

This energy can lead to what the alchemists have called "sacred marriage" and can be thought of as "synergy". This means that this can be a time of joining.

This moon can also hold an ancient gaulish reference of Simivisonios, which may be interpreted to mean "Time of Brightness" due to the noticeable increase in daylight.

Even present day observations like Mothers Day can be seen to have roots stretching as far back as the festival of Mater Matuta, Goddess of growth, childbirth, motherhood, and the raising of children. On this day mothers are honored by their children and husbands, and mothers pray for their children and the children of their siblings.

Whether you know this as the Seed Moon, The Pink Moon, The Alder Moon, or the Willow Moon, you know this moon as significant of the renewal and regeneration of spring.

Indeed, this moon is sacred to all the deities associated with spring such as Eostre, (for which Easter may have been named), Aphrodite, Tellus Mater (The patron of environmental concerns), Ceres, Persephone, and a whole host of others, this moon exhorts us to "OPEN UP" and begin the work you have set for yourself this year, magical and mundane, inner and outer, in the world and in your spirit.

Plant the seeds that will lead to your desires, and tend them well...

Protect them from harm...

Call to the seedlings of desire within you to "Open Up" Angel, and encourage them to grow while you stretch out on this mossy bank beside me. Together we can watch the turning of the wheel as it rolls right through the entire constellation...
